# Exports of goods from Moldova fall by 11% in six months

> Exports of goods from the Republic of Moldova totaled just over $2 billion in the first six months of 2023, a decline of about 11% from the same period last year, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics.

Exports to the European Union fell by 11%, while exports to Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries rose by 27%.

Most goods exported from Moldova are transported by road (over 81%), followed by sea (about 14%). About 62% of exports are destined for the European Union market, while goods shipped to CIS countries have a share of about 25% of the total.

Romania remains the main destination for Moldovan exports, with a share of over 31% of the total. Ukraine, Germany, and Italy follow.

In January-June 2023, imports of goods totaled $4.3 billion, registering a negligible increase of only 0.5% compared to last year.

About 50% of the goods that reach the Republic of Moldova are from the European Union. Imports from the Russian Federation have fallen by over 70%, from Belarus by 24%, and from the United States of America by about 18%.
