The deadline to register is September 30th.

The main goal of the scheme is to raise funds for NGOs, which can then use the money to support a variety of public interest initiatives, such as social services, environmental protection, and cultural preservation.

*"In addition, the 2% mechanism is a tool of participatory democracy,"* the ASP said in a statement. *"By making a percentage designation, individuals are actually participating in the process of allocating public resources."*

In the 1990s and 2000s, several countries in Central and Eastern Europe introduced similar mechanisms that allow citizens to donate a portion of their income tax to the non-profit sector.

In Moldova, the percentage designation, or *"Law 2%,"* was enacted on January 1, 2017.
