# Ukraine receives first Leopard 1 tanks

The three countries announced in February that they would donate the German-made tanks in the *"coming months."*

*"The first 10 tanks have been sent to Ukraine. Others are on the way,"* the Danish military said in a statement. *"Another 10 tanks have been delivered from the factory."*

Danish troops in Germany are training Ukrainian forces on how to use the vehicles, the army added, according to AFP.

*"I have no doubt that it will help them win the defensive battle they are fighting at the moment,"* Danish army commander Arpe Nielsen said in the statement.

The Leopard 1 was the main battle tank of the West German army, being first used in 1965, but has since been replaced by the Leopard 2.
