# Moldova tourism booms: 13.9% growth in first nine months

*“Out of the total 295,200 visitors, 53.2% were domestic tourists, while the remaining 46.8% hailed from abroad,”* the Bureau stated.

A notable trend emerged in the country of origin of the foreign visitors, with Ukraine taking the lead, accounting for 40% of all international arrivals. Romania followed closely behind, contributing nearly 19% of the total foreign tourist influx. The United States, Russia, and Germany rounded out the top five, with respective shares of 6.8%, 3.1%, and 3%.

*“Chisinau, the capital city of Moldova, maintained its position as the most popular destination, attracting 65.8% of the total overnight stays,”* the Bureau highlighted. *“More than 20% of visitors opted for accommodations in other central regions of the country.”*

Hotels and motels emerged as the preferred accommodation type, accommodating nearly half of all visitors. This segment experienced a 13% growth compared to the previous year. Vacation villages and tourist villas also witnessed increased demand, welcoming 56,000 tourists, representing a 9.3% increase from last year. Pensions saw a remarkable 20% surge in occupancy, hosting 33,500 guests.

*“The average duration of stay for tourists in Moldovan accommodation facilities during the January-September 2023 period stood at 4.8 days,”* the Bureau noted.
