Moldova's electricity consumers could soon face a price hike, as Premier Energy, the country's main supplier, has requested a 38-bani ($0,02) increase per kilowatt-hour from the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE).

Premier Energy explained the request with rising procurement costs and increased supply expenses. If approved, the new tariff would see customers paying 2.77 lei ($0,15) per kilowatt-hour, compared to the current 2.39 lei ($0,13).

The company declined to elaborate on the specific reasons behind the proposed increase, but its explanatory note submitted to ANRE cites factors like procurement prices, supply costs, and macroeconomic indicators.

*"The procedure is entirely transparent,"* stated Premier Energy spokesperson Vasile Gribincea. *"The application is publicly available on the ANRE website, and public debates will be held before any decisions are made."*

This potential price increase follows the last adjustment in November 2023. ANRE is yet to announce a date for the public debates or a decision on the proposed tariff change.
