Presidential elections in Romania // Over 12,600 people voted at polling stations opened in the Republic of Moldova

Over 79,600 Romanian citizens cast their right to vote, by this time, at polling stations opened for the first round of the presidential elections taking place over three days. At the 59 polling stations opened in the Republic of Moldova, 12,600 citizens voted today. Most Romanian citizens voted at polling stations opened in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland - over 11,500, Germany - 10,300 and in Italy about 10,000 people.

Over 6,500 Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted yesterday and this morning in the Republic of Moldova in the presidential elections in Romania. Of these, over three thousand voted in Chisinau. Among the polling stations opened in the districts, the highest voter turnout was recorded in the city of Ialoveni.

We remind you that today and tomorrow, November 24, polling stations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Moldovans with Romanian citizenship can vote at the 59 polling stations opened in the Republic of Moldova.

According to the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau, 17 polling stations are organized in the northern region of the country, 34 polling stations in the central region, of which 16 are in the city of Chisinau, and eight polling stations in the southern region.

In Romania, citizens will vote in the first round only on Sunday, November 24.

There are 14 candidates on the ballot paper. The most recent polls give the favourites Marcel Ciolacu, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, George Simion from the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians, Elena Lasconi, designated by the Save Romania Union, Nicolae Ciucă, designated by the National Liberal Party, and Mircea Geoană - independent candidate.

The second round will take place on December 8, and in the diaspora, voting will take place on December 6, 7 and 8.

The same polling stations will also operate in the elections for the Senate and Chamber of Deputies, on December 1, 2024.
