The British Embassy in Chisinau has issued a critical update for travelers heading to the United Kingdom. Starting February 25, 2026, all Moldovan citizens must secure an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before departure.

The new protocol marks a transition to a fully digital border system. The ETA is a mandatory requirement for all visitors who currently enjoy visa-free entry, including those in transit through UK airports.

**Costs and validity**

The digital permit costs £16 (approx. €19 or 372 MDL) and remains valid for two years. It allows multiple entries for stays of up to six months, provided the holder's passport does not expire sooner.

**Strict enforcement at check-in**

Authorities emphasize that the ETA must be obtained via the official GOV.UK/eta portal before booking travel. Airlines are now legally required to deny boarding to any passenger who fails to present a valid digital authorization.

The British Embassy recommends that all travelers verify their eligibility and application status well in advance to avoid disruptions.
