Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok has officially announced the designation of Péter Magyar as the nation's next Prime Minister. The decision follows a decisive victory for the Tisza Party in Sunday's general elections.

The announcement was made via social media following a high-stakes meeting between the two leaders. Magyar indicated that the new administration is expected to be fully operational by the first week of May.

**Mandate for systemic change**

The incoming Prime Minister emphasized that his mandate transcends a simple change of government, describing it as a fundamental "regime change." He asserted that the public has voted for a complete overhaul of the existing political system.

In a bold move, Magyar called for President Sulyok to resign immediately after the new cabinet is sworn in. He argued the President, elected by the previous Orban-led majority, no longer represents national unity.

**Institutional and media reform**

The new government plans to dismantle the current administrative structure. Magyar promised to establish independent ministries for health, education, and environmental protection—sectors that lacked dedicated portfolios under the previous regime.

A primary objective of the Executive will be the restoration of media freedom. This includes an immediate suspension of news broadcasts on state-funded channels characterized by the new leadership as propaganda outlets.

**Geopolitical realignment**

The Tisza Party leader pledged to reset relations with Brussels to unlock frozen European funds. His platform focuses on restoring judicial independence, implementing anti-corruption measures, and depoliticizing public institutions.

Regarding regional security, Magyar committed to unblocking €90 billion in aid for Ukraine. However, he maintains a cautious stance concerning Kyiv’s rapid accession to the European Union.
