# Most homes registered in northern Moldova: Three-room houses among the most popular

> The area of ​​the housing stock in the Republic of Moldova was, on January 1, 2026, about 93.3 million square meters, equivalent to over 93 square kilometers. For a visual comparison, the total area of ​​all housing in the country exceeds the combined territory of three microstates: San Marino, Tuvalu and Monaco.

The area of ​​the housing stock in the Republic of Moldova was, on January 1, 2026, about 93.3 million square meters, equivalent to over 93 square kilometers. For a visual comparison, the total area of ​​all housing in the country exceeds the combined territory of three microstates: San Marino, Tuvalu and Monaco.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the largest number of registered homes is located in the north of the country - 29.1%, followed by the Center region - 27.4%, Chisinau municipality - 26.4%, the South region - 13.3% and the Gagauzia Autonomous Region - 3.8%.

There are more homes registered in rural areas than in urban areas – 748 thousand compared to 617 thousand.

At the same time, only 68% of the homes registered in the Cadastre are equipped with a water supply, 66% have a sewage system, 47% are connected to central heating and 91% – to the natural and liquefied gas supply network.

The most popular housing types among Moldovans are three-room homes – 35.9%, followed by two-room homes – 32.6%, and four or more rooms – 20.6%.

Only 10.9% are single-room homes, the NBS data shows.
