# At least 3 dead in Moscow suicide bomb attack near restaurant

At least three people were killed and 21 others injured after a woman detonated an improvised explosive device near a Moscow restaurant on August 1.

Russian state media cited security officials confirming the casualty count following the evening attack.

**Attempted entry blocked at door**

Russia's National Antiterrorism Committee reported that the woman attempted to enter the venue, which was hosting a private event.

A security guard stopped her at the entrance before she detonated the explosive. The blast killed the guard, a customer, and the attacker.

**Initial confusion over blast origin**

Emergency services initially reported that the explosion occurred inside the restaurant's kitchen.

Management later confirmed the interior was undamaged and that the blast occurred entirely outside. Witness posts on Telegram described bloodied victims being evacuated from the scene.

**Security response and street closures**

Police sealed off Kudrinskaya Square, located near central Moscow, shortly after the blast occurred around 8:00 PM.

Images published by state news agency RIA showed heavily armed security forces securing the perimeter. A planned evening group bicycle ride nearby was canceled following the emergency response.
