# Despite sufficient electricity, the threat of power cuts persists: “Every day, it’s a struggle to find energy”

While the required electricity volumes have been secured for today, authorities caution that the regional situation remains complex. They warn that if conditions deteriorate, extreme measures, including controlled power disconnections, may become necessary.

The Republic of Moldova is facing its fourth consecutive day of challenges in providing enough electricity for domestic use. While the required electricity volumes have been secured for today, authorities caution that the regional situation remains complex. They warn that if conditions deteriorate, extreme measures, including controlled power disconnections, may become necessary.

Energocom announced that it has managed to avoid the energy deficit recorded in previous days. Most of the electricity needs have been covered by imports, which account for over 69% of the total purchased volume.

The remaining energy supply comes from local renewable sources, the day-ahead market in Romania, and district heating power plants. However, the possibility of disconnections has not been ruled out.

“If we find ourselves in a more complicated situation, which depends not only on us but also on the availability of these supplies, interruptions could occur. This also depends on us, the citizens: if we conserve energy during peak hours, we can prevent problems,” stated Maia Sandu, President of the Republic of Moldova.

Even though the required energy volumes have been identified and reallocated, the purchase prices remain significantly higher, which will put pressure on the tariffs that consumers will have to pay.

“We are a country that imports energy from a region experiencing shortages, including Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, and Hungary. Each day, it’s a struggle to secure this energy. I urge Moldovans to conserve energy resources, as we will end up paying exorbitant prices for it,” said Vasile Tofan, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.

Authorities are encouraging citizens to use energy responsibly, particularly between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM. Reducing consumption during these peak hours can alleviate pressure on the energy network and lessen the need for additional purchases at higher costs.
