Moldovan freelancers reported €2.35 million (46.1 million MDL) in income for July 2026, generating nearly €353,000 (6.9 million MDL) in single tax liabilities.

According to the State Tax Service (STS), calculated tax revenues rose by nearly 12% compared to the previous month.

The tax authority issued 3,537 payment notices to registered independent entrepreneurs for July. These notifications were delivered via email and remain accessible through the taxpayer portal and the official EVO mobile application.

**Tax compliance and digital payment tools**

Nearly half of all registered freelancers (46.8%) conducted transactions through dedicated business bank accounts. Additionally, 100 taxpayers processed cash transactions using POS terminals integrated with the state's electronic sales monitoring system, logging €66,300 (1.3 million MDL) in cash receipts.

Taxpayers must settle their July obligations by August 25, 2026. STS encourages individuals to review their payment notices and complete payments using government digital payment services, including MPay.

Entrepreneurs who issued incorrect receipts or processed client refunds in July can request a tax notice adjustment at any regional STS service center.

As of August 10, 2026, Moldova had 3,623 officially registered independent entrepreneurs, who have paid a cumulative €1.01 million (19.8 million MDL) in taxes since the start of the year.

**Understanding the single tax framework**

Moldova applies a flat 15% tax on freelance earnings up to €61,200 (1.2 million MDL) annually. Any income exceeding this threshold is taxed at 35%.

The single tax simplifies compliance by consolidating multiple social and administrative obligations into one monthly payment.

Collected funds are automatically allocated across state budgets: 26.3% to local budgets as income tax, 5% to local fees, 53.3% to the state social insurance fund, and 15.4% to mandatory health insurance.

Enacted on January 1, 2026, the independent work law established Moldova's first distinct legal and fiscal framework for freelancers, allowing individuals to operate legally without registering a corporate entity.
