# Nistru water flow reduced to 75 cubic meters per second

Water discharge into the Nistru River will be reduced from 85 to 75 cubic meters per second through the end of August. The Dniester Commission reached the decision on Tuesday, August 11, following declining water storage at the Novodnestrovsk reservoir and dry weather forecasts for the next two months.

Monitoring over recent weeks shows a continuous decrease in water levels upstream in the Carpathian region. Environment Minister Gheorghe Hajder stated that upcoming weather models do not project sufficient rainfall to replenish the basin.

**Focus on water security**

Authorities emphasized that the ten-cubic-meter reduction aims to conserve strategic water reserves without disrupting public drinking water supplies.

*"Securing drinking water for the population remains a strategic priority,"* Hajder said, adding that officials will closely monitor the river level and implement necessary emergency interventions.

Chisinau and Kyiv continue joint monitoring under a mutual cooperation agreement for hydrological emergencies. Ukraine confirmed its readiness to offer support if water levels drop critically near municipal intake stations.

**Preemptive infrastructure measures**

The Environment Ministry noted that the primary water intake station serving Chisinau requires technical upgrades to function safely at lower river levels. On August 7, the central government deployed five high-capacity pumps to reinforce operations at Vadul lui Voda.

This decision follows a previous adjustment on July 31, when the commission reduced discharges from 100 to 85 cubic meters per second.

Moldova placed its water management sectors under a 30-day hydrological alert on July 28. In response, local authorities in Chisinau created dedicated working groups to monitor municipal fuel, water stocks, and emergency response capabilities.
