# Prime Minister urges ministers to limit long, exotic trips: "We have other priorities"

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan reiterated his call for Cabinet members to limit "business tourism." At the beginning of the government meeting on August 12, the Head of the Executive emphasized that it is a priority for civil servants to remain in the country during this period. This presence is essential to ensure the necessary progress in the European integration processes.

"**There are many tasks to complete, and I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the civil servants who are canceling or postponing their vacations during this period. We must ensure that everything is delivered by August 31**," declared Vasile Tofan.

This announcement serves as a reminder to ministers about the importance of being more prudent in approving business trips, especially those that are lengthy or involve distant destinations. The Prime Minister previously addressed this topic on July 22 during the first meeting held after the inauguration of the new Cabinet.

"**I have requested that we exercise greater discernment regarding the trips we approve for ministers, state secretaries, department heads, and other civil servants. I continue to see numerous requests that are not necessarily aligned with our current priorities**," explained the Prime Minister.

He cited a specific example of a request for a nine-day visit to India and Mongolia.

"**I do not believe it is an efficient use of our time to spend nine days in Mongolia, especially since just the round trip requires a significant amount of time**," the Prime Minister noted.

Vasile Tofan also expressed confusion over the necessity of sending two state secretaries on a mission to Italy, suggesting that one official would have sufficed to gather and provide the essential information.

"**There are many examples and destinations to consider. I kindly ask you, ministers, to be more critical when approving requests for internal visits, both in terms of their duration and destination, because we have a lot of work to accomplish at home**," the Prime Minister concluded.

On July 22, the Prime Minister announced his intention to rationalize travel expenses, including his own, and to make greater use of remote communication tools.

“I understand that the Prime Minister personally approves all foreign visits. I will be much more selective in approving these requests. I plan to travel very little. My priority is to be in Moldova, where we can also conduct meetings by phone or via videoconference. While there will be occasions when I need to travel, I will limit these trips to the greatest extent possible,” stated Vasile Tofan upon taking office.

Reducing expenses for official travel and reviewing the salary policy in the budgetary sector are among the new Executive's top objectives.
