# EU grants €1.37m for Moldova and Romania cross-border projects

Three Moldovan villages alongside Pădureni municipality in Vaslui County, Romania, have launched a €1.37 million (approx. 26.85 million MDL) cross-border development initiative. The project targets modern infrastructure upgrades and regional cultural preservation.

Key investments include fully renovated community cultural centres in Floreni and Drăgănești, as well as the restoration of the historic Negrești Manor into a regional tourist attraction.

**EU funding drives regional cultural heritage**

Officially launched on August 12–13, the *"Cult4CBC"* project receives 90% of its budget through non-repayable European Union grants.

Beyond physical infrastructure, the initiative funds four inter-community festivals and two cross-border summer schools. These programs will allow 80 children from both countries to learn traditional crafts, music, and dance. More than 11,600 residents will directly benefit from the project’s outcomes.

**Long-term development and institutional support**

The initiative leaves behind long-term development tools, including a joint European fund-attraction strategy for small communities and a heritage protection framework for historic monuments in Moldova.

*"European funds are reaching where they matter most: small communities where every euro directly improves people's lives,"* said Sergiu Suharenco, Director of EGTC EAST GATE. *"European development is not a privilege reserved for major cities."*

Project preparation was supported by consultancy firm Prim Lex Consult, which assists local public authorities across the region in securing and managing EU grants.

**About EGTC EAST GATE**

Established on March 19, 2026, at the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest and headquartered in Constanța, the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) EAST GATE brings together public authorities from Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, and Bulgaria. To date, over 160 local administrations have joined the grouping to strengthen cross-border cooperation and attract EU funding.
