# Moldovan universities admit over 18,000 students

> Moldovan universities have enrolled more than 18,000 students during the main 2026 admission round. The figure represents an increase of nearly 2,500 students—or approximately 16%—compared to the same stage last year.

According to data released by the Ministry of Education and Research on August 14, higher education institutions admitted a total of 18,259 students across undergraduate, master's, and integrated degree programs.

The surge highlights a growing preference among domestic students to pursue higher education locally, supported by recent state investments in university infrastructure and academic modernization.

**Breakdown of 2026 admissions**

Undergraduate and integrated degree programs enrolled 14,195 candidates, up by 2,209 students compared to 2025.

Master's degree programs accepted 4,064 students, registering an increase of 270 candidates year-on-year.

For comparison, the main admission session in 2025 concluded with 15,780 enrolled students, including 11,986 in undergraduate programs and 3,794 in master's studies.

State-funded tuition spots saw strong demand, with 6,444 students admitted on government subsidies. This includes 4,247 undergraduate and 2,197 graduate students, covering approximately 80% of total available budget-funded seats.

**Investment driving local interest**

Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun noted that higher education interest has expanded for the second consecutive year.

*"We are seeing a growing number of young people choosing Moldovan universities for the second year in a row,"* Perciun stated. He highlighted recent investments in campus dormitories, research laboratories, modernized curricula, and closer alignment with labor market requirements.

**Most sought-after fields of study**

Student interest during the first admission phase concentrated heavily on business, legal, and technical disciplines:

* Economic Sciences: 4,323 admitted applicants (3,537 undergraduate, 786 master's)

* Law: 2,565 admitted applicants (1,918 undergraduate, 647 master's)

* Education Sciences: 1,696 admitted applicants (977 undergraduate, 719 master's)

* Information and Communications Technology (ICT): 1,636 admitted applicants (1,325 undergraduate, 311 master's)

* Engineering: 1,433 admitted applicants (1,174 undergraduate, 259 master's)

* Supplementary admission session opens August 15

Applicants who missed the first round or wish to apply for remaining budget-funded seats can participate in the supplementary admission session running August 15–24.

Subsidized spots remain available in key areas such as Education Sciences, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Natural Sciences, Architecture, Construction, and Security Services. Additionally, the Technical University of Moldova offers budget-funded dual study programs combining academic coursework with practical industry training in Engineering and Architecture.

Online applications must be submitted via the national eAdmitere portal between August 15 and 17. Final admission results will be published on August 24 following document verification and original certificate submissions.
