# Moldova's electricity needs are met for August 16

The Republic of Moldova's electricity needs for Sunday, August 16, will be fully met through commercial means. Energocom has secured the necessary electricity volumes for consumption that day. The company reports that it has purchased a total of 8,840 MWh, primarily from bilateral import contracts and renewable sources. However, Energocom warns that the regional situation remains challenging and that energy prices on external markets remain high, especially during peak hours.

According to the company, on August 16, the total volume of electricity purchased consisted of 30.74% from renewable sources, 65.69% from bilateral import contracts, 2.06% from the Day-Ahead Market in Romania via OPCOM, and 1.52% from district heating power plants (CHPs).

*“For Sunday, August 16, 2026, the electricity needs of the Republic of Moldova are fully covered commercially. Energocom has secured the necessary volumes to meet consumption,”* stated the company.

Energocom reports that a total of 8,840 MWh of electricity was purchased on that Sunday. The source breakdown indicates that the majority of imports were made through bilateral contracts, followed by renewable energy imports.

The company emphasizes that while today's needs are met, the challenges in the regional market persist.

*"Although today's needs are covered, the regional situation remains difficult"*, reads Energocom's press release.

One of the main challenges highlighted by the company is the high cost of energy available in foreign markets. *"Energy from abroad continues to be expensive, especially during peak hours,"* Energocom stressed.

In light of this, the company urges consumers to minimize unnecessary electricity usage during peak demand periods.

*"We encourage citizens to use electricity wisely, particularly between 18:00 and 23:00,"* Energocom reported.
