More than 1,000 residents across three apartment blocks in Chișinău’s Botanica district now have access to newly renovated communal grounds under the national *"European Courtyard"* initiative. Total investment across the 30 residential yards completed so far has exceeded €10.2 million (approx. 200 million MDL), according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea.

High community demand and severe local infrastructure deficits prompted the government to double its initial €5.1 million (approx. 100 million MDL) allocation. Out of 469 courtyards registered in the program, 30 are fully operational, with work on another 88 scheduled for 2026.

Speaking on public broadcaster Radio Moldova, Bolea stated that authorities plan to modernise roughly 80 apartment precincts each year based on available state funding and ministerial planning.

**Community-led priorities drive renovations**

Authorities selected the initial project sites by assessing infrastructure damage, deliberately targeting the most degraded locations first. Residents directly determined the upgrades needed for each site, including new access staircases, paved roads, lighting, parking stalls, recreational pavilions, and playgrounds.

In the Botanica district, recent entrance and pathway rehabilitation projects reached an investment value of approximately €255,000 (approx. 5 million MDL). Independent contract engineers conduct technical audits and verify core construction samples before final sign-off, supported by extended contractor warranties.

A subsequent investment phase will launch in 2027 to expand renovations across further residential blocks in the capital and surrounding suburbs.

**Rural infrastructure and administrative reform**

Beyond urban renewal in the capital, the government is aligning funding with key rural infrastructure priorities identified by 200 local mayors: potable water, sewage networks, and regional roads.

To support territorial consolidation, the cabinet has committed €331.6 million (approx. 6.5 billion MDL) to localities participating in voluntary municipal amalgamation. Town halls will design and submit their own community-specific projects for ministerial administration.

Under targets backed by the European Union’s Growth Plan, the government aims to provide 90% of Moldovan villages with running tap water and connect 60% of settlements to modern sewage systems by 2030.
