# Hâncești: Road and traffic safety for three villages

> A long-awaited road improvement has finally been completed for the residents of three villages in the Hâncești district. The road connecting Cioara, Pogănești, and Marchet was fully rehabilitated, benefiting nearly 3,500 people with improved traffic conditions. Additionally, a new sidewalk was constructed in Cioara, allowing locals, including children, to reach the school and other community institutions more safely.

A long-awaited road improvement has finally been completed for the residents of three villages in the Hâncești district. The road connecting Cioara, Pogănești, and Marchet was fully rehabilitated, benefiting nearly 3,500 people with improved traffic conditions. Additionally, a new sidewalk was constructed in Cioara, allowing locals, including children, to reach the school and other community institutions more safely.

The road that connects the three villages extends for nearly two and a half kilometers and serves as a crucial access route for both local residents and travelers heading to Vama Leușeni, one of the primary border crossing points between the Republic of Moldova and Romania. However, prior to its rehabilitation, the road was plagued by potholes, creating significant difficulties for commuters.

Until recently, the road that runs through the villages of Cioara and Pogănești was covered in gravel. Drivers had to navigate carefully to avoid potholes and potential breakdowns. After heavy rains, the road became particularly difficult for pedestrians as well. Now, however, the locals enjoy a new asphalt road, which has made their daily lives easier and travel much safer.

One resident said, "It was very bad. The wheels would bounce all the way to Leușeni. Now it's great. It's a joy to drive. We used to struggle, but now it's very easy. The road is in good condition, and we don’t have to worry about damaging our cars."

Another resident shared, "Driving was very difficult. Cars often broke down due to the potholes; it was unbearable. The trip from Leușeni to Pogănești used to take an hour, but now it only takes 10 minutes."

The road features two lanes, and the rehabilitation project also included the construction of sidewalks. In the village of Cioara, local residents report that they previously had to walk alongside cars on the road. Now, pedestrians, including children, can walk more safely on the newly built sidewalk.

*"They constructed a section of sidewalk here. It’s good, especially since the school is nearby; children used to walk on the road, which was dangerous."*

*"It was difficult before, but now it’s better. Previously, there were no sidewalks, and people often walked on the road, sometimes even in the middle of the street."*

To ensure the safety of road users, new road signs and guide poles have been installed, and fresh markings have been applied to the roadway. Local authorities report that these measures have significantly improved traffic conditions and reduced the number of accidents.

*"The road used to be made of gravel, with many potholes that made it quite bad. Residents faced dust issues, but the road has now greatly improved. People are very satisfied with the current conditions; driving on it is very pleasant,"* states Vitalie Rachițanu, the mayor of the village of Pogănești.

The total value of the projects exceeds 11 million lei, with funds allocated from the Road Fund.
