# Damaged textbooks withdrawn, replaced by October 15

> Textbooks that are damaged, dirty, have missing pages, or can no longer be used under normal conditions will be withdrawn and replaced. To address some issues reported in schools in Chisinau, the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) has announced it will begin collecting textbooks from other districts and municipalities. By October 15, worn-out copies distributed to students will be replaced with copies that are in proper condition.

Textbooks that are damaged, dirty, have missing pages, or can no longer be used under normal conditions will be withdrawn and replaced. To address some issues reported in schools in Chisinau, the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) has announced it will begin collecting textbooks from other districts and municipalities. By October 15, worn-out copies distributed to students will be replaced with copies that are in proper condition.

An online form will be made available for parents to report cases in which they requested the school to replace a damaged textbook but did not receive a resolution.

On September 1, the Special Fund for Textbooks asked all local education authorities to submit a report by September 3 on the availability of school textbooks for students and teachers at the start of the 2026-2027 academic year.

The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) noted that from September 1 to 3, the General Directorate of Education, Youth and Sports in the capital did not inform the Special Fund for Textbooks about any missing titles or the need to replace damaged textbooks in the capital's schools.

Most directorates that submitted data reported that their institutions were equipped with the necessary textbooks and had reserves of certain titles. These reserves can be transferred to schools experiencing shortages. The situations reported by some departments regarding insufficient textbooks are being analyzed, and any confirmed needs will be addressed through additional distribution or redistribution of existing stocks.

According to the Ministry of Education, "The textbook provision mechanism begins at each school, which checks its inventory, identifies shortages and damaged copies, and communicates its needs to the education department. The department first attempts to address shortages by reallocating resources among institutions within the same district or municipality. If local reserves are insufficient, the department will request assistance from the Fund, which identifies stocks in other districts or among the reserves of the MEC and the Fund, stored at Mold-didactica, and organizes their redistribution."

During the 2025-2026 academic year, approximately 16,000 textbooks were redistributed. At the beginning of the current academic year, orders were issued during the last week of August and through September 3 for the redistribution and additional distribution of around 3,500 textbook copies.

Between 2023 and 2026, over 2.5 million textbooks were printed. Nearly 60% of the titles and language versions available in the system were published in the last three years, with an average age of 3.9 years.

The MEC has stated that with the implementation of the new curriculum in 2027, the textbook fund will be gradually updated to meet new quality standards.
