# September 11 victims commemorated in Parliament. Grosu: "This day shows peace's fragility"

> At the beginning of the Parliament session on September 10, the deputies of the Republic of Moldova observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. Speaker Igor Grosu stated that this day serves as a reminder of how fragile peace can be and how quickly a society can be affected, especially in light of the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, which borders our country.

At the beginning of the Parliament session on September 10, the deputies of the Republic of Moldova observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. Speaker Igor Grosu stated that this day serves as a reminder of how fragile peace can be and how quickly a society can be affected, especially in light of the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, which borders our country.

**Colleagues, September 11, 2001, is a day that has left a lasting impact on the entire world. Twenty-five years have passed, but for thousands of families, the pain remains. Nearly three thousand people left their homes peacefully that morning and never returned; they were victims of terrorist attacks. The events of September 11, 2001, demonstrated how fragile peace is, how vulnerable our world can be, and how quickly a society can be affected. Today, as the Russian Federation wages war against Ukraine, which is just a few kilometers away from us, this lesson is more relevant than ever.

Security and peace are not guaranteed; they must be defended every day, emphasized Igor Grosu, President of the Parliament. 

*"Therefore, it is important for every citizen to understand that security and peace are not givens. They must be defended every day. On this day of significant sorrow, we stand in solidarity with the American people. Colleagues, I propose that we observe a minute of silence,"* the official added.

**Commemorative exhibition in Chisinau**

The memory of the victims of the attacks is also honored in Chisinau, where the United States Embassy in the Republic of Moldova has organized an exhibition featuring approximately 30 historical photographs, images of memorials, and materials related to the tragedy of September 11, 2001.

The exhibition includes images captured during rescue and intervention operations, including photos taken after the attack on the Pentagon. 

It will remain open until September 15, and in the coming weeks, it will be displayed in several public locations throughout Chisinau.

On September 11, 2001, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four aeroplanes. Two of the planes struck the Twin Towers in New York, one hit the Pentagon, and the fourth crashed in Pennsylvania. Nearly three thousand people lost their lives, and around six thousand were injured.
