# The Cubolta River will supply irrigation for farmers in Dondușeni 

> More than 30 farmers from Plop village in the Dondușeni district will gain access to water to irrigate about 87 hectares of agricultural land through the construction of a modern irrigation system. The total investment is around 11 million lei.

More than 30 farmers from Plop village in the Dondușeni district will gain access to water to irrigate about 87 hectares of agricultural land through the construction of a modern irrigation system. The total investment is around 11 million lei.

The new infrastructure will help 34 farmers protect their strawberry, plum, corn, rapeseed, and sunflower crops from drought and reduce their reliance on unpredictable weather patterns.

Construction at the site is currently about 40% complete.

The system will include a water intake from the Cubolta River, two pumping stations connected to the electrical grid, a 30,000-cubic-meter storage tank, a supply pipeline, and a distribution network with hydrants.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry reports, “This infrastructure will enable farmers to secure the water necessary for agricultural crops and reduce reliance on precipitation, thus helping agricultural holdings adapt to drought periods and the impacts of climate change.”

At the beginning of June this year, the World Bank announced an investment of 11.8 million dollars for three irrigation systems in the northern part of the country. These systems will provide farmers in the localities of Tețcani, Corjeuți, and Beleavinți in the Briceni district with access to water.

The project includes constructing three new pumping stations and completely reconstructing three existing ones. The construction plan also involves the installation of 32 kilometers of distribution networks, approximately 15 kilometers of supply pipelines, and the modernization of all related infrastructure.

Additionally, in early June, the Republic of Moldova signed a financial agreement worth 60 million euros with the French Development Agency (AFD) for the rehabilitation of centralized irrigation systems.

This financial support will focus on rehabilitating two major irrigation systems in the country:

- **The centralized system "Criulenii de Sus"** – This project aims to rehabilitate the infrastructure serving an area of 1,276 hectares, benefiting approximately 300 producers and landowners.

- **The centralized system "Călinești"** – This project will modernize a total area of 1,794 hectares and serve around 65 landowners in the region.
