Moldova's independent entrepreneurs generated over €2.24 million (approx. 45 million MDL) in August revenues, yielding €339,000 in calculated single tax as monthly liabilities edged down 1.8%, official fiscal data showed.

**Digital compliance and automated auditing**

The State Tax Service issued 3,861 single tax payment notices to registered freelancers for their August operations. According to revenue authorities, approximately 54.9% of independent entrepreneurs processed business transactions through dedicated commercial bank accounts.

Among compliant operators, 115 taxpayers recorded sales through certified cash registers interfaced with the government’s automated electronic monitoring system, logging 1.39 million MDL (€69,500) in cash turnover. Taxpayers identifying erroneous receipts, cancelled transactions, or non-business credits during previous filings may request administrative adjustments before balances settle.

Self-employed professionals face a firm payment deadline on 25 September 2026 to settle August tax obligations. Payments must be processed through the state electronic payment gateway MPay under the dedicated independent entrepreneur levy facility.

**Progressive single tax framework**

National tax registries currently track 3,678 active independent entrepreneurs across Moldova, having yielded roughly 26.3 million MDL (€1.31 million) in cumulative tax revenues to the national public budget.

The simplified fiscal mechanism levies a flat 15% rate on annual gross income up to 1.2 million MDL (approx. €59,800). Any earnings exceeding this threshold are taxed at 35%.

The unified assessment consolidates personal income tax, mandatory health insurance contributions, and state social security payments into a single electronic settlement, designed to curtail the shadow economy while ensuring structured revenue flows into public social welfare programs.
