# New €45M water network to link Chisinau, Straseni and Calarasi 

> Moldova’s infrastructure ministry launched a strategic €45 million (approx. 900 million MDL) regional water project on Tuesday to connect the capital, Chisinau, with the central districts of Straseni and Calarasi.

Moldova’s infrastructure ministry launched a strategic €45 million (approx. 900 million MDL) regional water project on Tuesday to connect the capital, Chisinau, with the central districts of Straseni and Calarasi.

The major utility network will secure modernized drinking water access for roughly 820,000 residents across central Moldova. Implementing partners and utility operators formalized the rollout by signing an inter-institutional cooperation agreement under the Open Urban Development Program in Moldova.

**Modern water intake and pumping systems**

Under the technical specifications, contractors will build a new water intake facility on the Dniester River, two automated pumping stations, and extensive connecting pipelines. 

The municipal water utility Apă-Canal Chișinău will serve as the primary supplier and operate the newly constructed main pipeline.

**German grant support**

The Open Urban Development Program is backed by a €14 million (approx. 280 million MDL) grant from the German government. 

Total investments for the regional infrastructure initiative amount to €45 million, representing one of the largest modern water utilities upgrades in the country.
