# Students in Chișinău celebrated the International Day of Peace

Primary school children still know little about wars and tragedies. Yet, with the innocence typical of their age, they understand one essential thing: peace must be cherished and preserved.

*“To me, peace means kindness and love among people.”*

*“To me, peace is like a third mother—because the first mother is the one who gave birth to me, the second is the one who taught me, and the third is the one who raised me. Peace teaches me not to use harsh words and to show respect.”*

*“For me, peace symbolizes tranquility and kindness.”*

*“Peace means kindness, respect, and the absence of war.”*

Every day, students learn that peace is built through simple gestures, starting with each of us. At school, they discover the importance of tolerance, empathy, and solidarity.

"School plays an essential role in fostering peace, as children not only learn to read and discover the world but also to be tolerant, supportive, empathetic, and respectful",  says school principal Galina Horin.

"We begin with peace every hour; at the start of each day, we begin with a kind thought and good deeds. This stays with us always, and peace begins with each of us," says teacher Victoria Toma.

The International Day of Peace is observed annually on September 21. The event was established in 1981, and the first official celebration took place in 1982. Since then, the day has promoted peace and non-violence worldwide.
