# Moldovan police and FBI are expanding cooperation, prioritizing online fraud and drug trafficking

The National Police is expanding its cooperation with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation to prevent and investigate complex forms of organized crime. Key priorities include combating online fraud and illicit drug trafficking, as well as developing forensic capabilities, including DNA investigations.

National Police leadership met on September 25 with representatives from the FBI in Bucharest and the Regional Security Office of the U.S. Embassy in Chișinău. Discussions focused on identifying new avenues for collaboration and intensifying the exchange of expertise with U.S. law enforcement agencies.

The FBI representatives reaffirmed their readiness to support the Police in strengthening their capabilities to prevent and investigate organized crime.

The Head of the General Police Inspectorate, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, acknowledged the support provided by the United States and emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the face of emerging forms of crime.

At the same time, the U.S. Department of Justice’s ICHIP team, alongside special agents from the FBI and the Diplomatic Security Service, recently met in Chișinău with Moldovan partners to combat cyber fraud. This cooperation focuses on sharing operational intelligence, tracking illicit digital activities, and dismantling fraud networks and scam-related call centers.
