# Romanian Prime Minister urged proposed ministers to "build a prosperous, modern, and fair Romania"

> Romania's designated Prime Minister, Siegfried Mureșan, sent a letter on September 27 to each minister proposed for the future government; they are scheduled to appear before the relevant parliamentary committees for hearings on Monday and Tuesday. The investiture vote for the Mureșan government is scheduled for Wednesday.

Romania's designated Prime Minister, Siegfried Mureșan, sent a letter on September 27 to each minister proposed for the future government; they are scheduled to appear before the relevant parliamentary committees for hearings on Monday and Tuesday. The investiture vote for the Mureșan government is scheduled for Wednesday.

"The priorities of the Government and of each minister are clear. I have sent a letter to every member of the Government I am proposing, outlining their specific mission for Romania. I want Romanians to know exactly what this Government will do and what the priorities of each minister are," stated the designated Romanian Prime Minister.

The documents signed by Mureșan contain, in the first section, a message addressed to all Cabinet ministers, as well as a personalized message for each individual regarding the principles that are to underpin their mandates. "I want us to build a prosperous Romania, a modern Romania, a fair Romania, and a Romania where the state serves the citizen. Change must begin with the Government. Our government will work as a team, guided by integrity, transparency, and competence. We will not deviate from these principles. We are aware of the difficult context in which we are taking over the government. Domestically, Romanians have made many sacrifices by paying higher taxes and levies to reduce the large budget deficit. The international situation is not easy either. The war in Ukraine continues, with an increasing number of drones entering Romanian airspace. The conflict in the Middle East has led to higher oil and fuel prices. All of this is felt in everyday life: in food prices, utility bills, at the gas pump, and in business costs. To meet these challenges, Romania must be reformed. We will build a modern state for empowered citizens," noted Siegfried Mureșan in the joint message addressed to the 16 proposed ministers.

He added that a modern Romania means less bureaucracy and quality public services; a prosperous Romania is one where work enables people to live better—not just cover expenses from month to month; and a fair Romania means a state where the law applies equally to everyone and justice does not depend on one's position or connections. "A secure Romania means protecting our citizens, defending our country, and being a reliable partner within the European Union and NATO. Change must begin with the Government. Romanians have already made enough sacrifices. The Government's primary obligation is to manage public funds prudently. Taxes are the fruit of people's labor, and we must not squander them. I call upon you to cut all unjustified spending and to use the money where it is needed—for the people," Mureșan  told the proposed ministers.

On Thursday, September 17, President Nicușor Dan nominated Siegfried Mureșan for the position of Prime Minister following consultations held that same day with parliamentary parties at Cotroceni Palace. The Head of State said Mureșan received the most votes from the political parties consulted.

Romania has been without a fully empowered government for over four months, following the ousting of Ilie Bolojan on May 5 via a no-confidence motion initiated by the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and AUR. Attempts to form a cabinet with Eugen Tomac and Adrian Veștea failed.
