# Day-Ahead Market: Volume reaches 45% of Moldova's energy use

> Approximately 45% of the Republic of Moldova's electricity consumption was traded on the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) for delivery on October 1. The Ministry of Energy notes that this represents the largest volume of energy traded in a single day since the launch of the DAM and reflects the growing interest of market participants in competitive short-term trading mechanisms.

Approximately 45% of the Republic of Moldova's electricity consumption was traded on the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) for delivery on October 1. The Ministry of Energy notes that this represents the largest volume of energy traded in a single day since the launch of the DAM and reflects the growing interest of market participants in competitive short-term trading mechanisms.

The traded volume reached 4,816 MWh at an average price of 2,703 lei/MWh, equivalent to approximately 134 euros/MWh.

The Day-Ahead Market (DAM), operated by OPEM, allows participants to buy and sell electricity for the following day, with the price determined by the interaction between supply and demand.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the increase in traded volumes contributes to the development of the wholesale electricity market and brings the Republic of Moldova closer to European energy market mechanisms.

OPEM is the Republic of Moldova-based subsidiary of OPCOM, Romania’s electricity and natural gas market operator. Commercial operations for the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) were launched in Chișinău on December 10, 2025, with the first delivery day taking place on December 11, 2025.

The energy strategy for the 2026–2050 period, approved by the Government during its September 30 meeting, aims to reduce the share of imported energy from over 77% to 40%, while ensuring that at least 85% of local production comes from renewable sources.

According to Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu, the Republic of Moldova has demonstrated its ability to overcome historical energy dependencies, and the new policy document seeks to transform this experience into a long-term development process. The goal is to strengthen the national energy system and enhance its competitiveness, enabling it to support the country's development and its EU accession process.
