A working group to coordinate the construction of the Strășeni-Gutinaș power line was launched in Chisinau. It includes representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Moldelectrica, the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, and the company responsible for designing and constructing the line.

According to the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau, the launch of the working group marks a new step in the implementation of the project, which aims to strengthen the energy link between the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

*"Backed by a $130 million investment from the U.S. Government, this project will strengthen the Republic of Moldova's energy security and independence, expand opportunities for American companies and technologies across multiple sectors, and deepen the economic partnership between the U.S. and the Republic of Moldova,"* the U.S. Embassy stated.

The Strășeni-Gutinaș line will operate at a voltage of 400 kilovolts and connect the power grid of the Republic of Moldova with that of Romania. Within the territory of the Republic of Moldova, it will span approximately 70 kilometers and pass through 25 localities across the Strășeni, Călărași, Nisporeni, and Hâncești districts.

The project also entails work at the Strășeni electrical substation, which is necessary to connect the new high-voltage line. At the same time, authorities are preparing the required construction procedures, including those concerning the land crossed by the future line and the environmental impact assessment.

This new high-voltage line will mark the third electrical interconnection between the Republic of Moldova and the European power grid via Romania, following the Vulcănești–Chișinău and Bălți–Suceava projects.

Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu, who accompanied Prime Minister Vasile Tofan to Brussels on Monday, October 5, for the 10th meeting of the Republic of Moldova–European Union Association Council, stated that for the energy sector, European integration means *“liberalization, competition, infrastructure compatible with the continental system, and the capacity to participate in the European energy market.”*

According to the minister, the Republic of Moldova has made progress in each of these areas in recent years. Electricity and natural gas markets have been liberalized, featuring new participants and mechanisms that are more competitive and transparent.

*“Interconnections with Romania are essential for integrating the Republic of Moldova into the continental energy system. Work is proceeding against the clock on the 400 kV Vulcănești–Chișinău line to ensure it becomes operational as soon as possible. The project is strategic for the national energy system, and its completion remains an immediate priority. At the same time, the Bălți–Suceava and Strășeni–Gutinaș interconnection projects are moving forward,”* Junghietu wrote on social media.

The official emphasized that this is not merely about new infrastructure, but about creating genuine alternatives for electricity supply and securing the Republic of Moldova's access to a European energy system.
