A new case of a violation of the Republic of Moldova’s airspace was reported on Friday, 16 October, in the area around the village of Sobari, Soroca district. According to the Ministry of Defence, the alleged unauthorised flight was recorded at 16:22. The incident follows four other drones flying over the country’s territory without authorisation during the night.

The Ministry of Defence has not yet specified what type of drone may have been involved in the latest incident or from which direction it may have come.

*“The Air Operations Centre continues to monitor the airspace of the Republic of Moldova, in coordination with the relevant authorities and partners”,* the ministry’s statement reads.

We would remind you that, on the night of 15 to 16 October, four drones entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova without authorisation, against the backdrop of Russia’s massive attacks on Ukraine. The incursions were recorded in several areas of the country, including near the towns of Ivanovca, Tudora, Otaci, Căplani and Purcari.

All four drones subsequently left the country’s airspace. Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatîi condemned the incidents and warned that any airspace violation poses a risk to public safety.

Since the start of the war launched by Russia against Ukraine, the Moldovan authorities have recorded around 100 incursions into the country’s airspace.
