# Moldovan wines and traditions at the Zurich Wine Festival

> The Moldovan community in Switzerland marked the fifth edition of the Moldovan Wine Festival, organized in Zurich by the "Rădăcinile Noastre" (Our Roots) Association. The event, held on Saturday, October 17, brought together compatriots from across Switzerland, guests from other European countries, and Swiss friends, all of whom could discover the traditions, music, and wines of the Republic of Moldova. Since its inception, the festival has promoted national culture and maintained ties with the home country.

The event organizer, Anastasia Pârvan, noted that the idea for the festival emerged in 2022 and was developed together with her colleague, Elena Rotari. This year marks the initiative's fifth edition.

"This is the finest example of cultural diplomacy within the diaspora—a way for us to promote our traditions, our culture, and our wines," stated Anastasia Pârvan.

According to the organizer, the event was attended by Moldovans and guests from Austria, Italy, and France, as well as Swiss individuals interested in learning more about the culture and traditions of the Republic of Moldova.

The festival also provided an opportunity to promote local producers. Visitors could discover wines from several wineries in the Republic of Moldova. The selection ranged from red and rosé wines to white wines.

Among the event’s guests was the performer Stela Botez—known as "the girl with the *cobza*" (a traditional folk instrument)—who gave a musical recital. The artist noted that this was her first time performing at a cultural event in Switzerland, and she expressed her delight at the invitation from representatives of the "Rădăcinile Noastre" ("Our Roots") Association.

Reflecting on the celebration's significance, Stela Botez cited lyrics from her song "Bun e vinul cel bălan" dedicated to wine and Moldovan traditions.

"I believe that by preserving our traditions and elements of our culture, we become richer and safeguard our identity as a people," the performer said.

Priest Mihail Adam also attended the festival. He noted that about half of the parish’s congregants come from the Republic of Moldova and that participating in such events offers an opportunity to reconnect with community members and share traditions from back home.

"I am very glad to have been invited, and it is a joy to share the traditions we hold," the priest said.

He also highlighted the symbolism of bread and wine in the Christian tradition, linking these elements to the Church's liturgical life.

Through music, native wines, and gatherings of people united by shared origins, the Moldovan Wine Festival in Zurich brought a touch of Moldova's autumn festivities to the heart of the diaspora. The event gave the Moldovan community in Switzerland a chance to celebrate their national identity and pass on their traditions—including sharing them with friends in their adopted country.
