The Republic of Moldova aims to have at least 600 public charging points for electric vehicles by 2030. Furthermore, at least 30% of these new charging points will be installed outside the capital, ensuring the infrastructure is accessible to drivers in the regions. The National Electric Mobility Program 2030 sets out these objectives, which the Government approved at its meeting on October 21.

The new charging points are set to be developed as a priority along major national roads, as well as near towns and border crossing points. Through this initiative, the authorities aim to facilitate long-distance travel for electric vehicles, ensuring that drivers are not solely dependent on charging stations located in Chișinău.

*“By 2030, we aim to develop a national network of at least 600 public charging points for electric vehicles, making their use accessible throughout the entire country,”* stated Vladimir Bolea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

According to the document, as of 2025, there were over 250 public charging points in the Republic of Moldova, with the majority concentrated in Chișinău, a few other cities, and along certain key roads. Another issue identified is the insufficient number of fast-charging points, which are particularly necessary for travel between different localities.

The program also sets targets for increasing the number of electric and hybrid vehicles. By 2030, these are expected to account for at least 15% of the national vehicle fleet—up from approximately 7% today—according to data included in the draft. At the same time, the authorities aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from road transport by at least 15% compared to 2022 levels.

*“Through this program, we aim to reduce the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels, create conditions for private investment, and bring the Republic of Moldova closer to European standards regarding electric mobility and the environment,”* the Deputy Prime Minister explained.

The document also calls for improving services for drivers, including access to information on the location and availability of charging points, transparent pricing, and more accessible payment methods. The networkis development will be supported through public and private investment, as well as external funding sources.
