# Forestry agency readies 31 million saplings for planting push 

> Moldova's forestry agency has readied over 31 million saplings across national nurseries to supply upcoming autumn and spring reforestation campaigns, officials announced on Thursday, advancing the country's national climate strategy.

Moldova's forestry agency has readied over 31 million saplings across national nurseries to supply upcoming autumn and spring reforestation campaigns, officials announced on Thursday, advancing the country's national climate strategy.

The seedlings were cultivated across approximately 200 hectares of nursery seedbeds established between autumn 2025 and spring 2026. In addition to seeded stock, foresters have prepared roughly 514,000 tall saplings produced through specialized transplanting.

**Bridging the European forestry deficit**

Regional forestry teams are conducting comprehensive nursery inventories to confirm exact seedling stocks. The verified figures will guide logistics for municipal and state planting drives across the country.

The initiative forms the operational backbone of the "Forest Generation" program, a national reforestation plan championed by President Maia Sandu. The long-term strategy aims to plant and rehabilitate 145,000 hectares of forest cover by 2032.

More than 20,000 hectares have already undergone afforestation under the scheme. Moldova's overall forest cover currently stands at just over 11%, lagging substantially behind the European Union average of over 35%.
