Temperature fluctuations and reduced natural light during the cold season can affect mood, energy levels, and concentration. Persistent fatigue, apathy, irritability, and a tendency toward isolation are some manifestations of autumn asthenia. Psychologist Emilia Vorobiov recommends monitoring these changes and consulting a specialist if these states persist.

Autumnal asthenia can manifest as feeling that sleep isn't sufficiently restorative, low motivation, and diminished interest in routine activities. Experts say these signs shouldn't be ignored; they should be examined in the context of one's overall health.

"Asthenia—especially in the autumn—is a persistent state of apathy, where sleep feels inadequate regardless of its duration, and a desire for isolation emerges," the psychologist explained during the program "Bună Dimineața" on Moldova 1.

Feelings of fatigue and apathy should not automatically be attributed to the change of season; assessing one's physical health is equally important. Emilia Vorobiov cautions that people should take vitamins and minerals only on a doctor's recommendation, not based on their own assumption that they need them.

One factor that can influence mood during the cold season is reduced exposure to natural light. According to the psychologist, the body requires time to adapt to seasonal shifts, and a drop in energy levels—along with difficulty concentrating—can be exacerbated by a lack of light.

"When there isn't much sun outside, our bodies produce more melatonin—a hormone that tends to induce sleepiness. We yawn frequently when it’s dark outside, and our ability to concentrate seems to suffer as a result," the psychologist stated.

Financial worries, daily responsibilities, and uncertainty about expenses during the cold season can also affect emotional well-being. In such situations, budgeting and identifying concrete solutions can help reduce stress.

"When we don’t know if we’ll have enough money to pay for heating, electricity, gas, and so on, we naturally become very stressed, and everything starts to irritate us—even something as small as, say, a spoon left on the table instead of being put in the sink", stated Emilia Vorobiov.

Furthermore, the psychologist advises paying attention to behavioral changes in those close to us. Withdrawing from routine activities, losing motivation, and avoiding social interaction may indicate that a person needs support.

The specialist emphasizes that individuals may experience seasonal changes in different ways. If apathy persists, and pessimistic thoughts or difficulty concentrating begin to interfere with daily life, it is advisable to seek professional help.
