Orthodox Christians enter Passion Week today

Orthodox Christians enter today into Passion Week, also called Holy Week, the last week of Lent.

During this period, believers prepare for the feast of Christ's Resurrection through hard fasting and prayer. According to church writings, during the following days, Christians do not eat until after sunset.

Passion Week is the week before the Resurrection of the Lord. According to the Church, this week reminds us of the last days of the Saviour's life.

The strictest day of fasting is Friday, also called Black or Dry Friday.

On Saturday, Holy Mass will be celebrated, followed by preparations for Mass on Resurrection night.

During Holy Week, the faithful may receive Holy Communion on any day except Friday.
