Energocom will consider the possibility of resuming electricity imports from Ukraine

Energocom will consider the possibility of resuming electricity imports from Ukraine, as the neighbouring country recently announced that it will be able to export electricity to the European market again, the company's director Victor Bânzari confirmed to Radio Moldova.

For the first time in six months, Ukraine will be able to export electricity again, as its energy infrastructure recovers after a long period of attacks by Russian invaders. Last autumn, the Republic of Moldova imported 30 percent of its electricity needs from the neighbouring country at a price of about $77 per megawatt-hour.

However, electricity grid operator Ukrenergo warned that Ukraine cannot count on the fact that Russian attacks have stopped.

Contacted by phone, Energocom director Victor Bînzari told Radio Moldova that the institution is to look into the possibility of buying energy from Ukraine. However, he said that this could happen if the prices for the purchase of Ukrainian energy are not higher than those currently offered by Romania.

In April, Energocom was buying 5.5 percent of electricity from Romania at a price of €91 per megawatt hour, and the Cuciurgan power plant, with which the contract has been extended for six months, supplies about 90 percent of electricity needs on the right bank of the Dniester at a price of $66 per megawatt hour.
