Austria plans to extend border controls with Slovenia and Hungary

Austria plans to extend its border controls with Slovenia and Hungary for six months from 11 May, when the current travel-free measure at these borders expires, Interior Minister Gerhard Karner announced today, reports Rador.

According to the Austrian official, the European Commission will be informed in the coming days, adding that free travel rules in the Schengen area at those borders is necessary to fight illegal immigration.
