Ana Revenco: The introduction of pre-vetting or vetting procedures for police officers and MAI employees is not necessary
The introduction of pre-vetting or vetting procedures for police officers and Interior Ministry employees, similar to those applied by authorities in the judiciary and prosecution system, is not necessary, Interior Minister Ana Revenco told Free Europe in an interview.
According to her, the heads of the main police subdivisions have already been changed and past corruption schemes would be combated.
"We have introduced integrity filters, every candidate who is proposed for promotion is examined from the perspective of his or her behaviour or risk of corrupt behaviour. Of course, we are working very hard in terms of exchanging information on this side too with the competent national bodies, with preventing and fighting corruption. Of course there is room for improvement, that is why we are also involved in discussions with the Ministry of Justice, and with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, with the National Anti-Corruption Centre, regarding the modification of the national legal framework on preventing and combating corruption", said the Minister of Interior.
Ana Revenco added that together with other state structures in the field of fighting corruption, they want to maintain a system that puts the interests of the citizen first.
