According to the official in Chisinau, this year our country is to receive 87 million euros from the European Peace Fund.

Valeriu Mija said that there is other funding, which cannot be made public, including because of trade secrets. These would cover the purchase of air defence systems, which until recently were not a priority, but the war in Ukraine has changed the perception of the authorities.

Previously, the authorities have said on several occasions that Moldova needs to strengthen its defence capabilities, given the security risks in the region. At the same time, Chisinau points out that modernising the army does not mean giving up its neutral status.
