Bucharest trilateral declaration: Romania and Moldova support Zelensky's 10-step peace plan
Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine signed a joint declaration in Bucharest on Thursday, which focuses on developing strong relations between the three countries in the political, economic, infrastructure, defence, security and cultural fields and notes that the three countries have similar visions for a stable and secure Black Sea.
"We express our wish to strengthen our cooperation, including in combating the effects of Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as in combating Russian propaganda, disinformation and strengthening our resilience," said Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu.
This document underlines the commitment to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine within internationally recognised borders. It also reiterates that the Black Sea is an important region of strategic interest for the security not only of the region but also of the Euro-Atlantic area.
"We also underline in this statement the importance of both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova achieving this year the opening of accession negotiations to become full EU member states. We express our full support for the peace formula, which President Zelenski has proposed and we have also discussed in our trilateral meeting how to implement this peace formula. We underline once again how important it is that all those who committed international crimes in Ukraine are held accountable and, of course, we reiterate our commitment that this trilateral cooperation will be further strengthened, as well as our coordination in this format", the Romanian Foreign Minister added.
The trilateral meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, Minister of National Defence Angel Tylvăr, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova, Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov, Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu and Moldovan Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii.
The next trilateral meeting, which will take place in the coming months, will focus on infrastructure and energy cooperation issues. This meeting will be attended by Foreign Ministers and Energy and Infrastructure Ministers respectively.
