Victor Parlicov: We do not rule out a return to the purchase of gas from Gazprom
The Republic of Moldova can buy cheaper gas from the international market, and there is currently no need to buy natural gas from Gazprom for the right bank of the Dniester, Energy Minister Victor Parlicov told TV 8. But he does not rule out the possibility of returning to importing gas from Gazprom.
"We, at the moment, see the Gazprom contract more as a contract to ensure social stability on the left bank of the Dniester. At the moment, it doesn't even make much economic sense. We can find cheaper gas on the international market, there is no point in buying from Gazprom. I don't rule out the possibility that we will go back to buying gas from Gazprom," Parlicov said.
Victor Parlicov also pointed out that if Gazprom were to terminate the contract, the Republic of Moldova would face two problems - the price of electricity and the safety of citizens on the left bank of the Dniester.
The entire volume of natural gas delivered by Gazprom is received by Moldovagaz and directed to Tiraspoltransgaz for consumers on the left side of the Dniester, including the Cuciurgan power plant, which produces electricity for the right side of the Dniester.
