The National Army of the Republic of Moldova, with the support of development partners, including NATO, began to modernize. During the years, it was not given the necessary attention, because the neutrality of the country was misinterpreted, said the Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatîi. "There have been many attempts to improve this situation and the efforts made, in collaboration with strategic partners and the assistance of the international organization, especially the North Atlantic Alliance, have meant that we are currently in a direction that allows us to fulfill our modernization objective and adjustment of the defense system to the new requirements", declared Anatolie Nosatîi. For his part, the Romanian ambassador in Chisinau, Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, referred to the efforts to support the National Army of the Republic of Moldova and other structures for the defense of order and the rule of law, stating that neutrality must be defended. "We recently witnessed the violation of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova by Russian missiles. These are proofs, if more were needed, that neutrality must be defended. All efforts to support the National Army of the Republic of Moldova and the other structures protecting order and the rule of law are aimed at strengthening the capacities and capabilities as well as equipping them to be able to protect the peace and safety of the population here in the Republic of Moldova", said Cristian-Leon Turcanu. The NATO-Republic of Moldova partnership is a strong one and is becoming stronger in these times of many trials, noted NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană. "The Republic of Moldova is a very important partner of NATO and we will continue to offer it support, as we have been doing for over three decades, to increase its resilience in the face of increasing pressure from the Russian Federation. In Bucharest, at the NATO ministerial reunion, they discussed common security concerns and ways to strengthen NATO-Republic of Moldova cooperation. The allies have decided to increase support for the Republic of Moldova, including in the field of increasing the capacity to implement reforms and produce training programs for security and defense institutions", said Mircea Geoană. We remind you that the NATO ministerial reunion was recently held in Bucharest which was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu.
