Nicolae Furtună: The virus that causes COVID infection could become seasonal
The virus that causes COVID infection could become a seasonal one, says the head of the ANSP's Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Directorate, Nicolae Furtună, in an interview for Agora.
According to him, international vaccine manufacturers are currently working on developing a combined immunisation preparation against influenza and COVID-19 infection.
"The SARS-CoV-2 virus could become seasonal, although COVID did not manifest itself seasonally, it manifested itself in waves. Each wave has been driven by a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus, but it could become a virus, let's call it seasonal, to make it understandable to the population. Moreover, there are some manufacturers who are actually working on producing a combined influenza-COVID vaccine and we could have that product as well. It will be like the flu vaccine, which is intended for ages 6 months to 90 years," explained Nicolae Furtună.
Nicolae Furtună added that immunisation against the coronavirus is vital, as infected patients could die from complications.
