The Republic of Moldova exported goods worth over $600 million in the first two months of the year: main destinations
In the first two months of this year, the Republic of Moldova exported goods worth $687 million, 3 percent more than in the same period last year, data from the National Bureau of Statistics show. Exports of goods to European Union countries during this period amounted to $429 million, accounting for 62 percent. At the same time, imports increased by 15 percent.
Statistics show that exports of domestic goods fell by almost 14%, while re-exports increased by 1.8 times. The vast majority of exports - more than 80% - are by road and 13% by sea.
Around 62% of Moldovan exports went to the European Union market. At the same time, goods shipped to CIS countries account for around 25% of the total, which doubled compared to the same period last year due to a 7-fold increase in exports to Ukraine.
Romania remains the main destination for Moldovan exports, with a share of over 33% of the total. It is followed by Ukraine, Germany and Italy.
In January-February 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, exports of oil and oil products increased 73 times, thanks to re-exports to Ukraine.
At the same time, exports of beverages, machinery and electrical appliances, fats and vegetable oils increased. In contrast, exports of cereals and cereal preparations decreased by 44%, seeds and oil fruits by about 60%.
In the first two months, imports increased by about 15 percent and the trade balance deficit, the difference between the value of exports and imports, widened.
