Government approved: the Republic of Moldova will denounce the agreements on the creation and activity of the interstate television "MIR"
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the denunciation of the Agreement on the creation of the Interstate Teleradio Company, signed in Bishkek in 1992, and the Agreement on the guarantees of international law for the free and independent activity of the Teleradio Company "MIR" in Ashgabat in 1993. In this context, the representative office of the Teleradio Company "MIR" in the Republic of Moldova is to be deregistered as a legal entity in the registers of the State Registration Chamber.
"The termination of the participation of our countries in the activity of MIR companies will contribute to the saving of financial resources and will reaffirm the commitment of the Republic of Moldova to protect the national and regional audiovisual space in order to ensure information security", stressed the Secretary General of the Government, Artur Mija.
In March 2022, in an analysis for Mediacritica, the President of the Press Council, Viorica Zaharia, pointed out that *"the TV channel with its command centre in Russia, MIR, not only makes propaganda, but also uses another dangerous form of distortion of reality - falsification of reality by omission. It is the omission of facts, the fragmentation of information, the total removal of relevant people and institutions from the news - in other words, a set of actions that presents the world differently than it really is."
At present, the joint TV channels for the CIS area - "Mir TV" and "Mir 24" do not hold a broadcasting licence issued by the Audiovisual Council and are not media service providers in the Republic of Moldova.
The Chisinau authorities have also recently refused to fund this TV station. In the period 2000-2022, financial means amounting to about 40.3 million lei were paid from the state budget to the Moldovan Representation of the Interstate Teleradio Company ,,MIR".
