Foreign Ministry summons Russian Ambassador to Moldova
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration will summon today the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova, Oleg Vasnetsov. The diplomat will be informed about the inadmissibility of the "improper" behaviour of some Russian citizens towards the Moldovan authorities. The announcement was made by Government spokesman Daniel Voda.
Moreover, according to Daniel Voda, some officials of the Russian Embassy are to have their access cards to the territory of the Chisinau International Airport withdrawn.
At the same time, as requested by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, the possibility of declaring an official from the Russian Embassy persona-non grata due to inappropriate behaviour will be examined.
On Monday, April 18, several foreign citizens were banned from entering the Republic of Moldova on the grounds that they did not meet the conditions for crossing the state border. Among them was the leader of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, Rustam Minnihanov. He was due to attend a congress in Comrat at the invitation of Socialist MP Alexander Suhodolsky.
The subject sparked conflicting discussions at today's cabinet meeting between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Irina Vlah. While the Prime Minister stressed that the Republic of Moldova will not allow foreigners to interfere in the country's politics, Irina Vlah pointed out that Gagauzia and the Tartastan region have had a friendly relationship for almost three decades.
