"Today, our beautiful Ukrainian sky becomes more and more protected, because Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems have arrived in Ukraine," the minister said.

According to him, Ukrainian anti-aircraft fighters "have mastered them as quickly as they could".

The United States was the first to announce the transfer of the Patriot system to Ukraine in December 2022 as part of a military aid package.

At the end of March, the Ukrainian military completed training on the US Patriot air defence system.

The Netherlands will also provide Ukraine with Patriot air defence systems and several missiles.

According to military experts, Patriot missile systems have long been a coveted missile defence shield and a defensive element of great interest to the US and allies in disputed areas of the world. In Europe, the Middle East and the Pacific, the system protects against potential strikes from Iran, Somalia and North Korea.

Patriot is a surface-to-air guided missile system first used in the 1980s that can target aircraft, cruise missiles and shorter-range ballistic missiles.
