"It was a resolution through which the European Parliament wanted to send a clear signal of support for the democratically elected authorities of the Republic of Moldova to all the pressures they have been facing lately. These are political pressures, related to the security of the Republic of Moldova, but also economic pressures. Beyond the financial support that has been and will be granted to the Republic of Moldova, we wanted to make it very clear that the European Union, the European Parliament and the Member States are at the side of the Republic of Moldova to help it cope with the security pressures and threats to the democratically elected political regime that we have seen in recent times".

MEP Dacian Ciolos also said that the authorities in Chisinau reacted quickly to the observations made by the European Commission, and the report presented yesterday could be an important step towards the launch of accession negotiations with the European Union.

Yesterday, the European Parliament passed a resolution calling for the start of negotiations on Moldova's accession to the European Union by the end of 2023, after the nine recommendations made by the European Commission have been met.
