Moldovan Ambassador to the Russian Federation Lilian Darii summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry
The Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Russian Federation, Lilian Darii, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry this morning. The diplomat did not comment to the press, TASS reports. According to TASS, the Moldovan diplomat was in the Russian Foreign Ministry's office for about 30 minutes.
UPDATE: Upon leaving the institution, Lilian Darie made statements to journalists. He said the meeting was constructive.
An employee of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Chisinau was forced to leave the territory of Moldova after being declared persona non grata on Wednesday, April 19.
In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) summoned the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Chisinau, Oleg Vasnetsov. He was informed about the inappropriate behaviour of two Russian diplomats towards the Moldovan authorities.
After the talks at the MFA, Oleg Vasnetsov referred to Moscow's position, which describes Chisinau's action as unfriendly.
"We asked the Foreign Ministry for an explanation of what is meant by inappropriate behaviour of the delegation and the embassy, but we did not receive any answer. We join the statements of the Russian Foreign Minister who qualifies these actions as unfriendly steps towards our country and damaging to both sides," Vasnetsov said.
Earlier, Moldovan diplomatic chief Nicu Popescu said that Moldovan authorities will not tolerate disrespectful behaviour towards state representatives and citizens of the country.
On Monday, several foreign citizens were banned from entering the Republic of Moldova on the grounds that they did not meet the conditions for crossing the state border. Among them was the leader of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, Rustam Minnihanov, who was due to attend a congress in Comrat.
