Sweden expelled five Russian diplomats

Sweden expels five Russian diplomats for activities incompatible with their diplomatic status, Reuters reports.

"Sweden has called the Russian ambassador and informed him that five people employed at the embassy have been asked to leave the country as a result of activities incompatible with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations," a Swedish Foreign Ministry statement said.

The Russian ambassador, Viktor Tataressiev, declined to comment on the Swedish authorities' decision.

Reuters reports that Sweden expelled three Russian diplomats last April following the launch of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier this month, Norway announced it had expelled 15 Russian embassy officials who are intelligence officers operating under cover of diplomatic positions.
